Poppy, named one of Geekwire’s Seattle 10, is a fast-growing tech startup whose mission is to build the modern village. Poppy finds and vets the best caregivers in every community. Parents join Poppy and are matched with a team of caregivers that they can book when they need care. We are using data and technology to build the village that every family deserves.

Building a network of qualified, awesome caregivers is our highest priority and our Recruitment Manager is critical to making that magic happen. You will be directly responsible for adding to the incredible caregiver team and making sure our high standards are always met. You’ll be the first point of contact for any potential Poppy caregiver and possess the talent and skills for assessing and evaluating qualifications and fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Core metrics will be # new Poppies activated each month and quality of new Poppies
  • Interview and assess caregiver candidates: Conduct 20+ interviews a week and assess qualification and fit
  • Orient and onboard successful applicants: orient incoming Poppies and helping new Poppies off to a great start
  • Report on progress: support and compile data about the number of applications, how long it takes candidates to get through the application process, and where %li we’re finding our most successful applicants
  • Collaborate with Operations: understand key supply needs and coordinate recruitment pushes accordingly, provide feedback and ideas for streamlining recruitment operations

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Love of people: The ideal candidate will love working with, getting to know, and talking to people. You will have a curiosity and a passion for people - what their interests and motivations are and how being a Poppy can work for them.
  • Childcare experience. You should know and be able to articulate what an awesome nanny or sitter looks like. No one knows caregivers better than those with childcare experience. We’ve found understanding the passion for childcare is a key part of successful recruiting at Poppy.
  • Interview/assessment and hiring experience. You should be comfortable building rapport with candidates while effectively and objectively evaluating for qualifications. Bonus points if you have experience hiring or selecting childcare providers!
  • Data-driven. Ability to implement and improve an objective evaluation system, collect data and improve based on learnings.
  • Strong communication skills. You will be talking to, texting, and emailing people all day long.
  • Demonstrated ability to exceed goals. We have ambitious goals and we want someone who is excited by a challenge. Ideally, you can share examples of how you’ve done this in the past.
  • Hyper-organized and detail-oriented. You’re the type of person that keeps and regularly updates a to-do list and a calendar. There are a lot of important little details to stay on top of.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and experimentation. We move fast, seek to learn in everything we do, and things change constantly.
  • Connection to Poppy’s mission. We’re on a mission and we’re looking for the people that are motivated to change the world for families.

As a front end developer of the engineering team, you will be responsible for the design and development of the the end-user experience, which you will help craft by contributing to the development of high-performing, well-tested, and thoughtfully architected javascript based applications.

Core Requirements:

  • Deep understanding of modern JavaScript (ES 6+) and its conventions
  • Experience building, maintaining, and deploying React based web applications
  • Real world experience with modern JavaScript development frameworks and build toochains
  • Knowledge of modern web development technologies and standards (HTML 5, CSS 3, ES6)
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks
  • Familiarity with designing and consuming various APIs including (REST, graph, JSON compliant)
  • Strong software development fundamentals

  • Work along side our engineering, product, and operations teams to build and improve the core use experience

About this role and why it’s important:

Poppy is on a mission to connect families to their modern village. We’re looking for a Full-stack Developer to join our engineering team. As a core member of the team you will be responsible for the design and development of systems and features that enables the Poppy experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Writing maintainable and testable backend logic and code
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining REST APIs
  • Creating first class web and mobile user interfaces
  • Translating product specs into code and usable features

Our Ideal Candidate has:

Strong software development skills:

Developing clean, well-designed code to solve really hard problems is what we do. This one is kind of non-negotiable.

Strong collaboration skills:

We’re a small, close-knit team that works on understanding how the technology we build improves the experience of our users in the real world. We value those that enjoy and thrive in tight collaborative working situations.

Prior experience working with a team on a web application.

We’re a team on a mission, with a lot of ambitious work in front of us so we strongly prefer candidates with at least 4 years of experience working on a professional web application, and who can hit the ground running.

The ability to work across the stack:

We’re responsible for an array of systems, some of which require navigating the latest JavaScript APIs and others which require writing a lot of Ruby. It’s important that you’re a quick study; it's equally important that you're both capable of and excited about working in a variety of different spaces.

Proficiency with and (especially) desire to work with Rails and React:

We are looking for someone who has a background in web development with experience developing with web based frameworks such as Rails, Django, or Nodejs. You should also have knowledge of modern web development standards (HTML 5, CSS 3, ES6) and familiarity with front end JavaScript frameworks such as React and Angular.

An appreciation for great interfaces:

We value engineers who are thoughtful and excited about great user experiences. Everyone on our team contributes to product and design decisions. If you can’t think of an interface that you’ve used recently which delights you, you likely won’t enjoy the role.
